An ice hockey player who left a traumatised woman fearing she was going to die during a terrifying sex attack in Dumfries has been jailed for four years. Colin Grimason pounced on his victim after dragging her into an alley in the town in May last year. Her underwear was ripped in two during the frightening assault. The year-old, who played for Irish side Belfast Prowlers, was in Dumfries at the time for a tournament.

This is a grave crime from which all women should be protected. The trial heard how Grimason and team-mates went to a night-club after playing in a competition in Dumfries. After leaving in the early hours, he met the year-old victim, who had lost contact with her friends. The court heard they chatted and initially kissed — but she told him she did not want to have sex.

She was sexually assaulted and ended up on the ground. Her underwear was torn and she also had a of grazes. Police later probing the attack found her car keys, phone, make up and ripped underwear in the alley. He has no convictions and continues to deny the offence. The court heard that he was the youngest crew commander in the history of the Northern Ireland fire service and worked as a mechanic. The victim also spoke out, and has encouraged other women to report sexual assaults.

It has been hard to process that another human being would inflict such pain and devastation upon me. Moving on, that is the part that will haunt and torment me; that he showed no remorse for what he did. I received tremendous support from the police and prosecution service who worked incredibly hard to help me receive justice.

I was treated with dignity and respect. By Dumfries and Galloway Standard. Get the latest top news stories sent straight to your inbox with our daily newsletter Invalid Something went wrong, please try again later.
